This is how I saw the mung seed and corn grow for the few days that I was at school.
I think we did this experiment so we could have a starting point for a unit of learning about plants. I also think it was practice to learn how to run experiments and help us have a deeper understanding of it so we can learn to do it on our own. I feel like this lab was practice for many other labs that we will preform later this year.
The corn kernel is a monocot because it has one seed leaf inside the seed coat. However, the mung bean is a dicot because it has 2 seed leaves inside the seed coat and the seed is round.
I didn't get to see all of the changes, but from what I noticed is the seed coat broke off and the plant was sprouting. I also saw that each seed was growing at different rates and they were all different. The seeds grew differently with the amount of water or any other substance that was in it. When the seed was planted, the stem was red, but I'm not sure what caused that because I was absent during a lot of this project.
A conundrum I had was that I was not here to see the full growth of the plants. But from what I did see, the seed seemed to be healthy and growing the way it was supposed to. I think it had the right amount of water and sun to grow and be healthy.
